I am currently in a band called Small Town Fires, which is on temporary hiatus due to hectic work schedules. In the spring of 2007, Matt Dermond and Zane Kanevsky from Goodnight or Sleep approached me to start a band. I had just finished Vol 1: Equiline and was looking to form a group to play the songs from Equiline live. Dermond and Kanevsky had just called it quits on GNOS and were looking to start up their music collective, The Peachtree Umbrella Company. Drummer Carmine Bonanni was recording his second full-length for his band, Menu, in my home studio at the time and keyboardist Joel Franke was living about 10 minutes away in his home studio, Hammerhead. So it just seemed convenient to start a group. At one point, we had up to six members, including Alex Harcharek on bass, but after Kanevsky, Franke and Harcharek left and bassist Andrew Wilson joined up, we formed our most solid line-up. Small Town Fires always sounded like a mixture of complete polar opposites. Iit was always interesting to answer the question: "What kind of music do you play?" I don't think any of us ever knew. Between the summer, fall and winter of 2007, Small Town Fires played in almost every small club in Philadelphia. We also played The Stone Pony in Asbury Park twice! We were planning to tour this summer, but with everyone in the band on a full-time work schedule, it's been a little tough to stick to it. I have no doubt that we'll be back in some shape or form by the end of 2008. Check out our official website: www.smalltownfires.com DOWNLOAD MP3S (©2007-2008 BMI):
